Should I convert video tapes to DVDs or MP4s?

Currently with increased viewing of videos on tablets, smartphones, laptops and desktops, more and more people are asking us to convert video tape recordings to MP4, the standard representation playable on all of those devices.

Other people wish to play videos on DVD players that are connected to the TVs.

Here are some reasons why you might prefer conversions to DVDs discs:
  • People with whom you wish to share the video have DVD disc players.
  • You already have a collection of DVD recordings.

Here are some reasons why you might prefer conversions to MP4 files:
  • It is less expensive to convert a videotape to an MP4 file.  In addition, multiple MP4 files can be delivered to you on one of our standard sized USB Flash Memory drives.
  • If you want to edit your video, you will need to convert it to an editable form. MP4 is one of the standard editable forms for video.
  • Video in MP4 representation can be stored on computer disks for backup, and cloud storage for sharing.
